vjZaniZ, Audio Reactive Visuals In Brazil

March 16, 2018

One of our favorite things is getting to see videos of people from around the world posted online. Last week we caught some visuals from vjZaniZ in the VDMX Facebook Group and had to reach out for more details.

1. Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Alberto Zanella, aka vjZaniZ, I´m a visual artist, motion designer and vj. I work for about 25 years with computer graphics here in Brazil, specially for corporate events, making projection mapping, imersive environments, 3d and VR. At the same time I made my urban media artistic projects like Pixels Vigilantes.

2. What tools (hardware / software / other) do you use in your artwork?

For creating media and loops, I use Cinema 4d and After Effect, I use these tools mainly in PC desktops for content production.

For live performance I use a MacBook Pro running VDMX with an Akai APC40 MkII. For me, there is nothing like the Beat Detector inside VDMX linked with the Step Sequencer to make my video loops react precisely with audio.

Nowadays I'm very adicted in capturing videos with my cell phone, do some motion tracking with C4D and insert 3d models in to the real video scenes to create my loops.

3. Tell us about your latest projects / performances.

My last job was a TV advertisement for a cosmetic local brand, where I made very subtle and delicate projection mapping. The main challenge in this project was to sync the cinema camera shutter at 24 fps with the 60 Hertz refresh of the 12 laser projectors. At the end, with the help of Blackmagic ATEM1 M/E 4K on the VDMX video out, everything worked fine.

One of my favorite authoring activist creation, my humble gift to the Mayor of São Paulo - Picas na Paulista - Dicks at Paulista
