SnapChat filters with VDMX

Here’s a guest tutorial from a long time VDMX user ProjectileObjects who we interviewed in 2019. They managed a way to integrate SnapChat’s “Snap Camera” for Mac along with VDMX’s to create some hilarious results.

2024 UPDATE:

UPDATE 2/12/2024: SnapChat discontinued the Snap Camera for Mac, but you can use the same technique alongside their developer application "Lens Studio." As of 2024, SnapChat still does not support Syphon output on Mac, or Spout output on Windows.

Summarizing ProjectileObjects’ original tutorial (found here). They send a video out of VDMX over syphon into TroikaTronix‘s “Syphon Virtual Webcam.” That enables Snap Camera for Mac to pull the video in as an OBS Virtual Web Camera. From there, VDMX picks up the video feed using the window capture feature.

During a Q&A ProjectileObjects’ said to us, “I hope SnapChat will see this as a good thing and integrate Syphon (Mac) & Spout (PC) into their Snap Camera application, making it easier for VJs and performers to harness the power of these AR lenses, and in turn that will inspire VJs and other live performers to make more lenses for live visuals.”

The video tutorial can be found below. ProjectileObjects recommended watching it at 2X speed!
