Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Lucinda Dilworth, a digital artist on a mission to bridge art with the modern, technology-driven world. Recently, I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where my passion for the synergy between digital mediums and entrepreneurial spirit took root. Growing up in the culturally diverse blend of Greece and the UK, has uniquely shaped my perspective, infusing my work with a compelling blend of experiences and cultural influences.
My journey has taken me from a competitive alpine skiing background to center stage as the curator and artist behind the mesmerizing collection "Artificial Impression." This collection is where I harness the power of technology and digital art to craft immersive experiences that challenge perceptions and aim to leave a profound and lasting impact.
My creative journey is characterized by a fusion of creativity, innovative thinking, and a deep understanding of the digital landscape. This combination sets me apart and propels me to explore the intricate relationship between art, technology, and artificial intelligence.
What tools (hardware / software / etc) do you use in your creative process?
My creative process starts with sketching and then progresses into Procreate to digitize the art. From there, I employ animation tools like After Effects or hand-drawn 2D animations in Procreate to breathe life into my visionary creations. I'm also passionate about experimenting with AI to push the boundaries of my sketches and drawings.
Once the animations are crafted, I use Meta Spark Studio to transform each artwork into immersive AR experiences, viewable through platforms like Instagram. To elevate the immersive aspect, I incorporate projection mapping and VDMX into my art, allowing the animations to merge seamlessly with physical spaces, creating vibrant and captivating environments. My hardware arsenal includes my trusty computer, a short throw projector, and a Novation MIDI board, which enables real-time control over effects applied through VDMX, enhancing the visual experience.
Tell us about some of your recent and upcoming projects
My most recent project is the "Artificial Impression" collection. Inspired by George Orwell's iconic work, "1984," this collection delves into the intricate dance between technology and human experience. I weave together elements of artificial intelligence, digital art, visual effects, animation, and projection mapping to reflect the themes of surveillance, control, and the manipulation of reality portrayed in the novel.
"Artificial Impression" serves as a captivating exploration of the evolving role of technology in our society, all while echoing the haunting warnings of "1984." This project pushes the boundaries of artistic innovation and challenges conventional norms.
You have a large Instagram following. Could you tell us how that came to be and how does it influence your process or benefit your artwork?
Instagram has been an integral part of my artistic journey, allowing me to connect with a diverse and global audience. I've used this platform strategically as a networking tool to expand my reach as an artist and uncover exciting opportunities. I've shared my creative process, including videos of me honing my skills in projection mapping and animation.
Far from being a distraction, Instagram has opened doors for me, enabling me to meet and collaborate with fellow creatives and art enthusiasts. It has served as a catalyst for my growth, helping me share the remarkable potential of technology in art. This platform has been instrumental in my artistic journey, enabling me to spark interest, involve viewers in the experience, and continue evolving as an artist in the digital age.
